Winds were between 290 and 310 degrees giving a near 90 degree crosswind component for Runway 23R at Manchester, and with reported winds gusting as high as 39 Knots.

There were 4 go arounds through the time I was there, 3 of which were quite early on the approach and one being pretty much right above me, so I can’t complain, these were:

• Etihad Boeing 787-9 A6-BLO EY21 From Abu Dhabi:
  ATC instructed go around due to a preceding aircraft birdstrike.
• Lufthansa Airbus A320-200 D-AIWB LH938 From Frankfurt:
  Windshear warning.
• Ryanair Boeing 737-800 EI-DPN FR4051 From Faro:
  Low level windshear.
• Ryanair/Buzz Boeing 737-800 SP-RKM FR6849 From Prague:
  Windshear warning.

On October 7th 2019, a Silk Way West arrived from Baku on the bi-monthly cargo flight they operate. It was landing in a light crosswind, when on touchdown the right-wing dips down, nearly missing the runway, before the 747 swings back up sharply to the left, with left-wing nearly getting clipped as well. The pilots were then able to steady the 747, before coming to a stop, after what could have been a serious incident.

On Monday 7th of January 2019 Flybe began a twice-daily service from Newcastle Airport to London City Airport. Operated by Eastern Airways Saab2000s which arrive early each morning firstly from Aberdeen before continuing to London, and doing the same in reverse. This flight is mainly pitched towards business travellers with typical one-way fares starting at around £69 in advance (making it unaffordable for the mass majority of the travelling public). The good news behind this route is that we do now have more than one solitary airline (in the form of British Airways flight to Heathrow!) flying to London again.
