It was not clear exactly what type of missile was fired but Ukraine’s air force said in a statement that it was launched from Russia’s Astrakhan region.

During press conference, Maria Zakharova, the director of the information and press department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, received a phone call to make sure she doesn’t talk about the ballistic missile launch.

Poland said it had scrambled fighter jets in response to a “massive” Russian missile attack on Ukraine.

Overnight, Russian forces deployed strategic Tu-95 bombers, with reports indicating up to 17 aircraft. Additionally, ships armed with a significant stockpile of Kalibr missiles were positioned at sea.

Around 6:00 AM, missile launches were observed from strategic aviation, Crimea, and the Black Sea.

Subsequently, loud explosions were reported in Kyiv. A residential building in one of the city’s central districts caught fire, resulting in injuries.

In response to Russia’s large-scale missile strikes on Ukrainian territory, the military command of the Republic of Poland deployed both domestic and allied aircraft, according to the Operational Command of the Polish Army on social media platform X.

Due to Russia’s large-scale missile assault, involving strikes with cruise and ballistic missiles as well as drones on targets, including those in western Ukraine, Poland and its allies have launched an aviation operation within Polish airspace.

According to the report, “In line with existing procedures, the Operational Commander of the Armed Forces Group (AFG) has activated all available resources under their command. Fighter jets have been scrambled, while ground-based air defense and radar systems have been placed on the highest state of alert.”

A video captured an Indian Air Force MiG-29 fighter jet spiralling uncontrollably towards the ground in a flat spin, moments before the crash.

The incident occurred on Saturday as the aircraft came crashing down in a field near Agra. The Indian Air Force has confirmed that the MiG-29 suffered a “system malfunction” before the crash.

Fortunately, the pilot managed to eject safely, guiding the stricken aircraft away from populated areas to prevent any casualties on the ground.

A MiG-29 aircraft of the IAF crashed near Agra during a routine training sortie today, after encountering a system malfunction. The pilot manoeuvred the aircraft to ensure no damage to life or property on the ground, before ejecting safely. An enquiry has been ordered by the IAF, to ascertain the cause of the accident.

The IAF posted on X

While it was not visible in the video, locals claimed that the pilot was seen parachuting down into nearby Baha village.

RAF fighters were scrambled to Air India flight to Heathrow after a suspected “bomb threat”.

The Royal Air Force scrambled RAF Quick Reaction Alert Typhoon fighter aircraft on Thursday, with a “sonic boom” heard over Norfolk as the jets reached supersonic speeds.

A pilot on flight #AI129 from Mumbai reported a bomb threat as the plane approached Heathrow: “We have a suspected bomb on board, requesting priority landing.”

The flight was forced into a holding pattern prior to landing at the London airport as it was intercepted by the jets. The Typhoons were soon stood down and the flight was “released to continue to its original destination under the direction of civilian air traffic control”, the Royal Air Force confirmed.

A Royal Air Force spokesperson said: “We can confirm that RAF Quick Reaction Alert Typhoon fighter aircraft from RAF Coningsby were launched this afternoon, to investigate a civilian aircraft.

“Following an uneventful interception the aircraft was released to continue to its original destination under the direction of civilian air traffic control. This incident is now being handled under the control of civilian authorities.”

A loud sonic boom was reported across Norfolk at 12:40 BST as the fighter jets raced to intercept the airliner.

A Russian Su-35 came within 50 feet of U.S F-16 during interception in the Air Defense Identification Zone off the coast of Alaska.

The close encounter occurred on Sept. 23 during a flurry of activity by Russian aircraft over the span of several days.

The conduct of one Russian Su-35 was unsafe, unprofessional, and endangered all – not what you’d see in a professional air force,.

Gen. Gregory Guillot, NORAD’s top commander

The Alaska Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) is international airspace that stretches 150 miles from the Alaska coastline, but the U.S. requires that any aircraft transiting through it must identify themselves or be intercepted by NORAD aircraft.

A Russian military drone entered Latvia’s airspace and crashed 90 km from the border with Belarus.

A Russian military drone which crashed in Latvia on Saturday carried explosives that were likely to have been intended for Ukraine when it strayed into its air space, Latvian officials said on Monday.

Romania and Latvia, both NATO members and supporters of Ukraine in its 2 1/2-year-old war with Russia, said on Sunday they were investigating instances of Russian drones that crashed after breaching their airspace.

The drone that landed in Latvia was of the Iranian-designed Shahed type, National Armed Forces Commander Lieutenant General Leonids Kalnins told a press conference, according to Latvia’s Delfi news website.

The drone’s explosives, which were likely meant for Ukraine, were deactivated following its discovery in Latvia, Kalnins told reporters.

The drone fell in the region of the village of Gaigalava some 90 km (60 miles) from the border with Belarus, from where it entered, according to a Latvian Defence Ministry statement on Monday.

NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoana on Sunday denounced the incidents as “irresponsible and potentially dangerous”, while saying there was no indication of a deliberate attack on alliance member-states.

One of the F-16 fighter jets sent from Nato allies to Ukraine has crashed on Monday.

The aircraft went down amid a barrage of Russian missiles on Monday, killing pilot Oleksiy Mes, Ukraine’s military said. It marks the first loss of its kind since the planes were delivered earlier this month.

The General Staff of Ukraine’s army said later on Thursday that several F-16 jets were deployed alongside anti-aircraft missile units to fight the Russian attack.

During the approach to the next target, communication with one of the aircraft was lost. As it turned out later, the plane crashed, the pilot died.

The General Staff said in the update

The Ukrainian military said the pilot destroyed three cruise missiles and one drone in Russia’s largest aerial attack to date.

The cause of the crash was not a direct result of an enemy missile strike.

UPDATE The F-16 was unfortunately shot down by the Patriot system (friendly fire) following a loss of communication and a lack of coordination between the units of the Ukrainian Air Force
Mariana Bezuglaya, deputy head of the Ukraine parliament’s defense committee, claimed that an F-16 crashed after being hit by a US-made Patriot anti-aircraft missile system during Russia’s attack on August 26.
Mariana Bezuhla cited unnamed sources for her claim and demanded punishment for those responsible for the error.
