Legendary astronaut William Anders, known for capturing the iconic “Earthrise” photo during the Apollo 8 mission, tragically passed away on Friday. Anders, 90, was piloting a small T-34 Mentor aircraft when it crashed into the waters near San Juan Islands, Washington.

Disturbing footage captured by bystanders shows the plane plummeting into a lake. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

Anders’ legacy extends far beyond his piloting skills. The “Earthrise” photo, a breathtaking view of our planet as a blue marble rising above the lunar surface, is considered one of the most influential photographs ever taken. It is credited with sparking the modern environmental movement, offering a stark perspective on Earth’s vulnerability in the vastness of space.

Tributes poured in from the space exploration community and beyond. NASA Administrator Bill Nelson lauded Anders for “offering humanity among the deepest of gifts an astronaut can give.”

Anders reportedly retired from the Air Force Reserves and General Dynamics, moving to Orcas Island in 1993, where he established the Anders Foundation and the Heritage Flight Museum with his family.

William Anders will be remembered as a pioneer of space exploration and an artist who forever changed our view of our home planet.

A Jet Suite X (JSX) Embraer ERJ-145 suffered a left main gear collapse on landing runway 04 at Houston-Hobby Airport.

The Embraer ERJ-145 with registration N942JX was operating flight XE284 from Dallas to Houston with 31 occupants on board. However, on landing the aircraft suffered a left main landing gear collapse.

This caused the aircraft to veer to the left until it ran off the side of the runway before it came to a rest on its left wingtip within the designated shoulder area.

Airport officials confirmed that 31 people were on board, with one crew member sustaining minor injuries during the incident.

“The landing gear collapsed on the JSX aircraft after landing on runway 4. Emergency services are on scene. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.”

Airport Spokesperson

The cause of the landing gear collapse is still under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). The Embraer ERJ-145LR is a regional jet aircraft commonly used for shorter-haul flights.

The specific aircraft involved in this incident was manufactured in 2001.

A Frontier Airlines Airbus A320neo was damaged in Denver after it struck an obstacle during pushback on Friday, April 19, 2024.

The Airbus A320neo was scheduled to operate flight FFT4794 bound for Fargo, North Dakota. However, it encountered a mishap during pushback from the gate at Denver International Airport (KDEN).

While maneuvering away from the terminal, the aircraft’s right winglet, also known as a sharklet, struck an obstacle, possibly a jetway.

Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries among the ground personnel or those on board. The incident did cause a delay in the flight.

The Airbus A320neo was taken out of service for a two-day period to undergo repairs. The nature of the repairs is not yet public information.

After a successful inspection and maintenance, the aircraft was cleared to resume normal operations on Sunday, April 21st.

A Virgin Atlantic Airbus A350K scheduled to operate flight VS26 from New York JFK to London Heathrow was cancelled after a ground service vehicle struck the plane.

The incident, which occurred at the gate, involved a catering truck that “rolled into” the engine cowling of the stationary aircraft, according to Virgin Atlantic. The airline confirmed in a statement that no passengers were on board at the time.

Today’s VS26 from New York JFK to London Heathrow has been canceled following an incident at the gate at JFK involving the engine cowling of a stationary Virgin Atlantic aircraft and a catering service provider’s car that rolled into it. We can confirm that no customers were on board the aircraft during this time.

Virgin Atlantic Spokesperson

The extent of the damage to the engine is currently unknown. Virgin Atlantic is investigating the incident and has not yet announced when the flight will be rescheduled.

The aircraft G-VDOT is an Airbus A350-1000 which is 7 years old. It arrived from London Heathrow on flight #VS25 and landed at 22:37 EDT.

Engine cowlings are the outer shells that enclose the aircraft’s jet engines. They are crucial for streamlining airflow into the engine and reducing noise. Damage to the cowling can potentially affect engine performance and require repairs before the aircraft can return to service.

Delta is the official airline of Team USA on the road to the Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024, Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026 and the Olympic and Paralympic Games Los Angeles 2028

The road to Paris is well on its way and Delta is already supporting Team USA as they travel to qualifying competitions, training events and Team USA activities. Delta partnered with 15 Team USA athlete ambassadors.

The surprise arrived at Toulouse, when spotters discovered the stunning new livery of an Airbus A350.

During the roll-out from Airbus factory, the special Olympic livery was discovered few days ago, on April 05, 2024.

The aircraft performed a taxi check and rejected takeoff test (RTO) on April 8, 2024.  It is the most challenging tests an airplane has to undergo for its certification trials.

The RTO is an emergency type maneuver that requires aircraft to stop just before taking-off due to onboard malfunctions or control tower command.

The Airbus A350-900 is currently under test registration F-WZGU until it takes its real registration N521DN.

Airbus already delivered 587 A350s. This Delta one is MSN661.
