Mayor says rescue efforts are under way after cargo vessel crashed into Francis Scott Key Bridge, sending vehicles into water.

A major bridge in Baltimore has collapsed after a container ship collided with it early on Tuesday, sending a number of vehicles into the water.

At least five Police and Coast Guard helicopters are part of the operations as seven people believed to be in the water.

A large vessel had crashed into the Francis Scott Key Bridge. The Dali had left Baltimore at 1am and was heading for the Sri Lankan capital, Colombo, according to the maritime data platform MarineTraffic.
