A Lufthansa flight experienced an undercarriage fire after arriving at its parking stand at New Delhi Airport.

The flight #LH762 departed Munich, Germany for a 7-hour flight to New Delhi on Monday, July 1 2024 carrying around 490 passengers.

A wheel of a Lufthansa A380 caught fire during the landing process at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA).

Fire trucks rushed to the Airbus A380 (registration D-AIMC) after it arrived at its parking stand.

Since the plane had to undergo checks and spare parts were not immediately available, the return flight to Munich was cancelled.

The Lufthansa spokesperson said the aircraft D-AIMC is scheduled to operate flight #LH763 to Munich on July 3.

On 15th June, an Emirates Airbus A380 experienced a brief surge in its left engine during takeoff from Sao Paulo Guarulhos International Airport.

The Airbus A380-800 with registration A6-EUL was scheduled to depart as flight EK262 from Sao Paulo to Dubai. However, while the aircraft was accelerating for takeoff on runway 10L, the left engine experienced a brief surge.

A loud bang erupted from one of the left-hand Rolls-Royce GP7270 engines, followed by streaks of flames, as reported by the Aviation Herald. Reacting swiftly, the crew rejected the takeoff at a low speed of approximately 40 knots.

The aircraft taxied off the runway via taxiway “Lima” without further incident.

Following the engine issue, the flight was ultimately canceled. The A380 remained grounded in Sao Paulo for repairs until June 17th, when it returned to Dubai.

Another four A380s will be dismantled in the coming weeks.

In recent days, two of the main companies that process second-hand A380s have reached an agreement for the dismantling of another 4 planes.

This agreement is motivated mainly due to the enormous demand for parts that currently exists for the A380. The aircraft in service require a large number of new or reconditioned parts.

Second-hand market

Given this enormous market that is opening up for the owners of A380s and given the already more than evident lack of demand for these aircraft as second-hand units, owners of the stored aircraft have decided to proceed to dismantle other four units.

A leasing company has closed an agreement with VAS Aero Services for the dismantling of the aircraft and the distribution of the parts to Europe, the Middle East, Australia, Oceania and Southeast Asia.

15 aircraft already scrapped

Several aircraft have been dismantled at the Tarmac Aerosave facilities in Tarbes, France and in Alice Springs, Australia for exemple.

British Airways flight #BA12 to London Heathrow returned to Singapore due to a technical issue.

The flight #BA12 departed one hour late at 03:10 SGT from Singapore Changi Airport to London Heathrow.

The typical flight duration is 10 hours, with a landing scheduled at 6:30 BST at LHR.

The Airbus A380 (registration G-XLED) took off from runway 20C and climbed to 27,000 ft. The crew contacted ATC and requested a return following a technical issue.

The A380 aircraft descended to 10,000 ft and started to circle over the sea to dump/burn fuel for 5 hours in order to reduce the weight before returning to SIN.

Long haul aircraft such as the Airbus A380 and Boeing B777 are equipped to jettison fuel in emergency situations only. According to CAA guidelines fuel should be dumped over the sea or if this is not possible it should be above 10,000 feet to allow the fuel to evaporate before reaching the ground.

The 10 year-old plane finally landed on the runway 2C more than 5 hours after departure at Singapore Changi Airport.

We’re sorry that this flight has been delayed to the following day.

British Airways

British Airways confirmed the incident and cancelled the flight. New departure is scheduled at 17:00 from terminal 1.

Due to operational challenges caused by unprecedented weather, Emirates flight #EK4 was allowed to depart late from London Heathrow.

Emirates flight #EK4 from London Heathrow to Dubai was scheduled to depart at 00:30 as one of the last flight from the main London’s Airport.

As Dubai experienced the highest recorded rainfall in 75 years, DXB airport faced unprecedented operational challenges forcing the airport to cancel 884 flights over 2 days.

London Heathrow warned about a late running programme for the night between Wednesday and Thursday, April 18 2024.

Flight #EK4 operated by an Airbus A380 (registration A6-EUM) departed at 01:28 BST, about one hour late and landed in Dubai at 10:38 GST for a flight time of 6 hours and 9 minutes according to Radarbox.com.

Heathrow curfew

As this flight was exceptionally allowed to depart that late, there are two time periods: 23:00 – 07:00 and 23:30 – 06:00 both with restrictions on certain types of aircraft. The more restrictive period (23:30 – 06:00) is known as the Night Quota Period (NQP) and has limits on the number of movements.

Weather conditions are forcing pilots of stressful landings at Dubai International Airport.

Several flights experienced missed approach this morning of Tuesday, April 16 2024 at Dubai International Airport due to severe weather conditions.

The holding patterns and missed approches increased delays after crosswinds made each approach a tough moment.

Flight #EK76 from Paris CDG landed more than one hour late. The Airbus A380 (registration A6-EEB) departed a bit more than 30 minutes late but landed more than 1 hour late on runway 12L at 07:50 GST.

After descending from cruise altitude of 29,000 ft, the approach to DXB was a real labyrinth but not less than 17 left and right turns!

By that time, wind gusts of 28 kts from South East were reported, meaning strong crosswinds were challenging the pilots.

Thunderstorms and wind direction change created dangerous wind shear. The airport was on IFR (Instrument Flight Rules) as the visibility was reduced.

Qantas oldest A380 is now back resuming flight operations after years of storage.

Qantas A380 registration VH-OQA flew back to Sydney to resume the airline operations.

The aircraft was stored since the pandemic then ferried to Abu Dhabi for over a year before it reached Sydney after more than 13 hours of flight on Friday, April 5 2024.

As it was flying without any passengers, the plane made a short landing on runway 16R Saturday, April 6 2024 by 13:35 AEDT.

Qantas VH-OQA finally returned to service in Qantas fleet only few hours later to operate flight #QF11 from Sydney to Los Angeles.

The aircraft was delivered to Qantas on September 2008 from Toulouse, via Singapore. The first flight was January, 25 2008 from Airbus factory.

On 4 November 2010, the aircraft operating the route, an Airbus A380, suffered an uncontained failure in one of its four Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engines during flight #QF32. The failure occurred over the Riau Islands, Indonesia, four minutes after takeoff from Singapore Changi Airport. After holding for almost two hours to assess the situation, the aircraft made a successful emergency landing at Changi.

Both Qantas and Singapore Airlines, which uses the same Rolls-Royce engine in its A380 aircraft, temporarily grounded their A380 fleets after the occurrence and performed further inspections.
