The post British Airways A380 #BA12 circled for 5 hours following a technical issue appeared first on AIRLIVE.
]]>The flight #BA12 departed one hour late at 03:10 SGT from Singapore Changi Airport to London Heathrow.
The typical flight duration is 10 hours, with a landing scheduled at 6:30 BST at LHR.
The Airbus A380 (registration G-XLED) took off from runway 20C and climbed to 27,000 ft. The crew contacted ATC and requested a return following a technical issue.
The A380 aircraft descended to 10,000 ft and started to circle over the sea to dump/burn fuel for 5 hours in order to reduce the weight before returning to SIN.
Long haul aircraft such as the Airbus A380 and Boeing B777 are equipped to jettison fuel in emergency situations only. According to CAA guidelines fuel should be dumped over the sea or if this is not possible it should be above 10,000 feet to allow the fuel to evaporate before reaching the ground.
The 10 year-old plane finally landed on the runway 2C more than 5 hours after departure at Singapore Changi Airport.
We’re sorry that this flight has been delayed to the following day.
British Airways
British Airways confirmed the incident and cancelled the flight. New departure is scheduled at 17:00 from terminal 1.

]]>Qantas is forced to cancel its direct flights between Perth and London Heathrow Airport as rerouting more West would increase flying time and then a real payload/fuel challenge.
Flights #QF9 from Melbourne to London via Perth are cancelled at least for the next three days as well as return flights #QF10.
The flights are operated by Boeing 787-9 aircraft during almost 18 hours between Perth and London.
Depending on the flight paths, it sometimes flies North of Iranian’s airspace or over Iraq.
We’re temporarily adjusting the flight paths for our flights between Perth and London due to the situation in parts of the Middle East.
Qantas
The Qantas alternative is to reach London with a 4 hour stopover in Singapore to refuel with new flight #QF209 in place.
Qantas’ other flights to and from London (QF1/2) are unaffected as they operate through different flight paths.

The Lufthansa flight LH463 from Miami departed Monday, March 25 2024 at 18:15 EDT for a 8 hour-flight to Frankfurt.
The flight was operated by a Boeing 747-8 (registration D-ABYG) which was delivered to the airline in 2013.

The aircraft landed on runway 09L shortly before 6am local time and left Heathrow 2 hours later from runway 09R.
This short visit marks the increasingly rare opportunity to watch a passenger Boeing 747 at London Heathrow after the last super jumbo left British Airways fleet in April 2020.
According to Cirium, this is one of the 53 passenger Boeing 747s still in service.
The last visit of a commercial Boeing 747 at London Heathrow was another Lufthansa’s aircraft (registration D-ABVZ) back on Saturday, July 8 2023 as noticed by M Zulqarnain B.
The opportunity was already a diversion on flight LH471 from Toronto.
