A Delta Air Lines Boeing 767 was grounded at Gatwick Airport when an emergency evacuation slide deployed unexpectedly.

The incident, which occurred while the aircraft was parked, resulted in no injuries but caused impacts to a catering truck.

Reports indicate that the emergency slide deployed from the 1R door, located at the front of the aircraft on the right side. The inflatable slide, designed for rapid evacuation in an emergency, landed on top of a catering truck servicing the plane.

The cause of this accidental deployment is currently under investigation. While uncommon, such incidents can occur due to mechanical malfunction or inadvertent activation.

Delta and Gatwick Airport authorities are working together to assess the situation and ensure the safe removal of the slide. The catering truck may also require inspection for any potential damage.

Passengers scheduled to fly the aircraft are likely experiencing delays as a result of the incident. Delta will re-accommodate passengers or arrange for repairs to the aircraft before it can resume its journey.

Further details regarding the cause of the deployment and the eventual course of action are expected to be released soon.
