On November 17th, Jeffrey Bruce “Jeff Skiles” officially retired from American Airlines.

Jeff Skiles is a pilot who has spent the last 30 years with US Airways and was a key component in the successful crash landing known as the “Miracle on the Hudson”.

Serving as the first officer on a flight from New York LaGuardia alongside Captain Chesley Sullenberger in 2009, Skiles assisted in landing the engine-damaged aircraft on the Hudson River, saving everyone onboard.

Skiles’ lifetime of experiences contributed to this astounding outcome and attributes the result to crisis management training and intense preparation.

His last flight was on a 787-9 Dreamliner operating as #AA87 from London Heathrow Airport (LHR) to Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) ORD.

Apparently, he had to buy a ticket for his wife to join him on the flight. There was also no water salute or a reception at the gate.

Flight from Chicago O’Hare International Airport to Kalamazoo, MI declared an emergency on Wednesday, August 28 2024.

The flight American Airlines #AA6175 returned to Chicago ORD as the landing gear would not retract.

The Canadair CL-600 (N455AW) departed form runway 10L at 5:45pm but the flight lasted only a bit more than 30 minutes.

The crew declared an emergency was vectored back to ORD. The 20-year-old plane landed on runway 09C and was able to taxi back to the gate.

Landing gear not retracting refers to a situation in aircraft operation where the gear (wheels) that allows the plane to land and taxi fails to fold up into the aircraft’s body after takeoff.

This can increase drag, reduce fuel efficiency, and potentially necessitate an emergency landing if it cannot be resolved in flight.

A dead woman was found entangled in machinery in a baggage-processing area at at Chicago O’Hare airport on Thursday.

Larry Langford, a spokesperson for the Chicago fire department, said firefighters were called to the airport at about 7.45am for a report of a person pinned in machinery used to move baggage. He said they discovered the woman entangled in a conveyor belt system in a baggage room.

The police communications office initially said the woman was discovered at 2.27am, creating confusion about why firefighters and paramedics did not arrive for more than five hours.

After checking with the police department about the timing, Langford said that he was told surveillance footage shows the woman walking in the baggage room at 2.27am. The communications office issued a second statement Thursday afternoon saying that surveillance video shows the woman entering the room at 2.27am. She was actually discovered at 7.30am, prompting a 911 call.

The baggage room was not publicly accessible, Langford said, and it was not clear how she found her way into it. Scott Allen, a spokesperson for the US Department of Labor, said an official with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Osha) visited the scene and learned the woman was not an airport employee.
