On Sunday, August 30th, Airlines pilots landing at LAX Airport, reported seeing “a guy in a jetpack” flying around 300 yards next to their wing while they were on the final approach.
The pilots of American Airlines flight 1997 from Philadelphia reported the situation with the ATC:
- American Flight 1997: “Tower, American 1997, we just passed a guy in a jetpack.”
- Tower: “American 1997, OK, thank you. Were they off to your left or right side?”
- American Flight 1997: “Off the left side, maybe 300 yards or so, about our altitude.”
In addition to this, Skywest pilots also confirmed the sightseeing saying:
- Skywest Flight: “We just saw the guy passing by us in the jetpack.”
The LAX tower also asked other planes on approach to be cautious and keep an eye out for the guy with the jetpack.
Regarding this, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said it turned over the case to the Los Angeles Police Department. However, the Police department says it received no such report from the FAA.
This incident is being investigated thoroughly.
